The Mountain Goats have released their 14th album this year, Transcendental Youth. The sole core member John Darnielle has focused on the introverts & unstable ones in this album. The lyrics of the songs are gloomy and would be depressive if they weren't combined with such upbeat and catchy tunes.
The lyrics on first glance are simple but the tenacity with which John Darnielle delivers them is what makes them resonate and bounce in your head.
"The loneliest people in the whole white world are the people you aren't going to meet again."
Transcendental Youth promotes living in reality no matter how unsatisfied we are with it and not scanning from it. With strong and triumphant sound it tells us to be us and be happy with it . The way to do so is by facing it and that is what this album forces you too do.
