Track Feature and the drama that comes with it
Crystal Castles has finally uploaded something new since it's lead vocal Alice Glass left the band and it's a wonderful listen.
This techno sonata with Alice's vocals has been on my repeat for an hour now and i'm still loving it.
Although I do have a soft heart for female vocals in eloctronic music, what really makes this track stand out are it's simple yet profound lyrics:
"If you defray
You end up prey
Glow through the veil
Is this what you call frail
Ignore the edification
Of those whom you admire
We withhold our blessing
We refuse to calm the fire
Frail Is this what you call frail
Glow through the veil
Is this what you call frail
Knit her a new pea coat
Drape it past the knee
The sinew has withered
Suture as accessory
Frail Is this what you call frail
Glow through the veil
Is this what you call frail."
The track originally had a statement on it's soundcloud page by Ethan Kath: "i wish my former vocalist the best of luck in her future endeavors, i think it can be empowering for her to be in charge of her own project. it should be rewarding for her considering she didn't appear on Crystal Castles' best known songs." to which Alice replied with:
for the record, i wrote almost all of the lyrics in my former band and the vast majority of the vocal melodies
— ALICE GLASS (@ALICEGLASS) April 17, 2015
i was a founding member of crystal castles and shaped the sound and aesthetic from the very beginning
— ALICE GLASS (@ALICEGLASS) April 17, 2015
manipulative statements about my contributions to the band only reinforce the decision I made to move on to other things
— ALICE GLASS (@ALICEGLASS) April 17, 2015
After which Ethan quickly shortened his statement to "i wish my former vocalist the best of luck in her future endeavors." It's a shame that there is ego confrontation between artists who have made such amazing work together.Sadly this will probably be the last we hear of Alice Glass on a Crystal Castles track, but gratefully it is an amazing track.
